Chile-EU Solar Energy Workshop

Date:
11 November 2014 to 12 November 2014
Place:
Sevilla, Spain

The Chile-EU Science, Technology and Innovation Initiative (CEST+I), supported by the European Commission and coordinated by the Chilean National Science Commission (CONICYT), supports cooperation in science, technology and innovation between the EU and Chile.

CEST+I supports the organisation of seminars in priority areas of collaboration and this year it is organising a Chile-EU Solar Energy Workshop.

This one-and-a-half day event, to be hosted in Seville on 11th-12th November, will bring together academic and industry experts from Chile and the EU, for a discussion focused on applied research (the link between university research and market innovation) and the application of new solar technologies in the Chilean market.

It will achieve this by enabling leading figures in the field in Chile to discuss the potential for the industry in Chile with researchers from organisations across the EU. It will look in particular at how relationships between university research centres and private-sector technology firms are developing in Chile and at their potential as solar power rolls out into the mainstream of the national energy mix.

This event will coincide with CSP Today, a major international industry event on solar energy (taking place on 12th-13th November in Seville), to raise its profile and impact among industry participants from across the EU.

Discussions at the event, which will cover research in both concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic (PV) projects and will be supported by expert speakers, will focus on

  •   Background to Solar Power in Chile what are the natural conditions and the current state of the sector?

  •   Future of Solar Power in Chile – how great is the industry’s potential?

  •   Solar Innovation in Chile where are the principal areas of R & D in Chile currently?

  •   Collaborative Research in solar energy how can universities and firms work effectively together in the Chilean context?

  •   EU-Chile partnerships in solar energy what are the opportunities for EU research centres and solar technology firms to work with Chilean partners?

The event will take place at the NH Conference Centre in Seville. It will run from 9.00-18.00 on Tuesday 11th November and 9.00 to 13.30 on Wednesday 12th November.
