India is expected to be a major player in CSP technologies, especially with the incentives provided by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. Several laboratory and demonstration-scale research programs have been initiated in both industry and academia. Considerable expertise, spread across different industries, exists in India in the realm of thermal engineering and power generation that can be applied for the development of CSP plants.However there still appears to be a knowledge gap in CSP in India with respect to the countries in the forefront of the CSP revolution
Objectives of the workshop
- Apprise the participants of the current status, technology gaps and R&D opportunities in the three CSP technologies, namely, parabolic trough, linear fresnel, and solar tower.
- Applications- Electricity, high temperature process heat, and cooling.
- Provide a forum for promoting linkages with Indian industry, academia, and R&D organizations.
- Promote collaborative research and development.

Who should attend?
The workshop is targeted at stakeholders from industry, R&D organizations and academia who are currently/planning to be involved in the R&D and commercialization of CSP technologies for both electricity addition and value-added applications such as heating and cooling. The participants are expected to emerge from the workshop with an understanding of development and challenges in CSP technologies.
This CSP workshop is being jointly organized at Jodhpur by the (i) International Center for Application of Solar Energy Technologies (ICASET), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, Rajasthan and (ii) School of Solar Energy, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat. ICASET is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). IIT Jodhpur has been designated as the Centre of Excellence in Solar Thermal Research and Education by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of India. It has a 180 acre solar park designated for laboratory to demonstration scale R&D in solar energy.
