Cogentrix Energy, LLC ("Cogentrix"), through its wholly owned subsidiary Cogentrix Solar Services, is the owner and operator of facilities formerly known as Solar Energy Generation Systems I and II ("SEGS I" and "SEGS II"). SEGS I and II represent the first two utility-scale solar trough plants built in the world and deliver up to approximately 43 megawatts of electric capacity under contract to Southern California Edison ("SCE"). The plants were completed and placed in service in 1984 and 1985 and are located in San Bernardino County, California.
Cogentrix Energy, LLC is a leading independent power producer with a long track record of developing, constructing, and operating power generation assets. Cogentrix has effectively managed market risks over an extended timeframe by staying focused on the generation sector and adhering to its own steady process discipline. Founded in 1983 by George Lewis, an experienced and entrepreneurial power engineer, Cogentrix adopted a business model that deployed standardized, cost-effective generating plant designs under long term power agreements to creditworthy utility customers. Today, Cogentrix continues to deploy its core strengths in the areas of development, acquisition, power marketing, construction, operation and management of power assets in expanding its power portfolio.
Cogentrix is embarking on what it believes will be an exciting, high value and profitable new chapter in the Company’s growth story. The combination of a growing demand for renewable generation, and the need for reliable, efficient and clean thermal generation resources characterizes an industry in which an experienced, well-respected development firm with a strong track record and substantial internal resources is positioned for success. Accordingly, Cogentrix is now focused on the development of renewable and other low-emission generating resources, and the acquisition of generation assets that exhibit opportunities to materially enhance value through environmental improvements, operational enhancement and power marketing.
With its corporate office located in Charlotte, North Carolina, Cogentrix Energy is an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.
